Watchlyst Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 21, 2026

Watchlyst is an iPhone app that puts TV episodes, movie releases and sports fixtures on your own calendar and reminds you before they start. It is made by Mahmut Acar (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.

The short version: we collect only what the app needs to work. We don’t show ads, we don’t track you across other apps or websites, and we don’t sell or share your data with anyone for marketing. You can delete your account and everything in it from the app at any time.

What we collect

Your account. You sign in with Apple. We receive a stable Apple user identifier and, if you choose to share them, your name and email address (Apple may give us a private relay address instead of your real one). We also store your time zone, your default reminders and when you finished setting up the app. To be able to revoke your Sign in with Apple session when you delete your account, we keep the token Apple gives us for that purpose.

What you choose in the app. The genres, competitions, teams and shows you follow; the streaming services you have; the movies, episodes, matches and races you add to your calendar or watchlist, with their reminders and watch status; the whole seasons you add; and your watch history.

When you open the app. We note the first three days you open the app (the date, and when you first opened it that day), when our one-time Premium offer became available to you, and when we showed it, so that the offer shows only once and only after you’ve used Watchlyst for a while.

Your devices. To send push notifications, we store your device’s push token, whether it is a test or App Store build, the app and iOS versions, and whether you allow notifications on it (so we don’t send ones it can’t show). To show Live Now on your Lock Screen, we also store the tokens iOS gives the app for its Live Activities with that device, and delete them with it.

Your subscription. If you subscribe to Watchlyst Premium, Apple handles the payment. Our subscription provider, RevenueCat, receives the purchase details from Apple and tells us which plan you have and until when. We also keep when you first had Premium (a free trial counts), so that the one-time offer isn’t shown to you. We never see your payment details.

Your country, for where to watch. When you open a movie, show or match, the app sends your iPhone’s region (for example “US”) to our server to look up streaming services and TV channels there. We store it with your account only when you save the streaming services you have, as the country you saved them for.

Technical data. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs (such as IP addresses and request times) for a short time for security and troubleshooting.

This website. thewatchlyst.app has no accounts, forms, cookies, analytics or trackers. Like any website, it is served with standard logs (such as IP addresses and request times) that our website host, Cloudflare, may keep for a short time for security.

What stays on your iPhone. If you turn on Phone Calendar, the app writes your Watchlyst entries to a calendar named “Watchlyst” on your iPhone (and in iCloud, if you use iCloud calendars). We don’t read your other calendars or send any calendar data to our servers. The Watchlyst calendar’s settings and offline copies of your calendar and watchlist stay on your device.

We don’t collect your location, contacts, photos, health data, browsing history or advertising identifier.

How we use it

Who we share it with

Only the service providers that run parts of Watchlyst for us, and only what each one needs:

Shows, movies, posters and “where to watch” come from TMDB (with data from JustWatch), and sports schedules from TheSportsDB. We ask them for public catalog data only; none of your personal data is sent to them. This product uses TMDB and the TMDB APIs but is not endorsed, certified, or otherwise approved by TMDB.

We may disclose information if the law requires it. We never sell your personal data.

How long we keep it

As long as you have an account. Something you remove from your calendar or watchlist is kept for 10 more minutes, so you can undo the removal. When you delete your account in the app (You › Delete Account), we delete your account and everything linked to it (follows, streaming services, calendar, watchlist, whole seasons, history, devices and subscription status), revoke your Sign in with Apple session, and ask RevenueCat to delete its record of you. Deleting your account doesn’t cancel an App Store subscription; cancel it in your iPhone’s Settings › Apple ID › Subscriptions.

Your choices and rights

Children

Watchlyst isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect data from them.

Changes

If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top, and tell you in the app when the change is significant.
